Hellboy is a fictional superhero character created by writer and artist Mike Mignola. He first appeared in *Hellboy: Seed of Destruction* #1 (March 1994), published by Dark Horse Comics.

Born in 1944 in a ritual summoning by Nazi occultists, Hellboy, whose real name is Anung Un Rama, was brought to Earth as an infant demon. He was intercepted by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) and raised as a human.

Hellboy possesses superhuman strength, stamina, and an accelerated healing factor. His most distinctive feature is his large, red-skinned appearance, cloven hooves, a tail, and a massive stone right hand known as the "Right Hand of Doom". This hand is the key to unlocking the apocalypse, a destiny Hellboy actively fights against.

As an adult, Hellboy becomes a field agent for the BPRD, investigating paranormal threats and protecting the world from supernatural dangers. He's a complex character, grappling with his demonic origins and choosing to use his powers for good, despite his inherent nature.
